On August 23, 2026 we continued handing out backpacks, and that morning they went to the children who live on the dike along the banks of the Ozama river, the same children who come to our Bible school. They arrived the way they always do, and every one of them went home with a backpack of their own for the school year that is about to begin.

That same day the delivery continued in Bomba de Yaiba, a rural community where the children came to the community center with their mothers and grandmothers and Pastor Castillo handed the backpacks out to them one by one. Between one community and another we have been giving these out for a while now in some of the poorest places where we work, and with the blessing of the Lord and your help we expect to hand out six hundred of them this year to children who need them.

A backpack is a small thing for most families, but for a child who would otherwise carry a few notebooks in a plastic bag, or carry nothing at all, it changes the way the first day of school feels, because it is one less reason to feel ashamed in front of the other children and one more reason to keep going back.

None of this starts with us, since every backpack handed to a child was paid for by somebody who decided that a child they will probably never meet should not begin the school year empty handed, so thank you for making it possible, and please keep these children and their families in your prayers.

El 23 de agosto de 2026 seguimos entregando mochilas, y esa mañana les tocó a los niños que viven en el dique a orillas del río Ozama, los mismos que asisten a nuestra Escuela Bíblica. Llegaron como llegan siempre, y cada uno se fue con una mochila propia para el año escolar que está por comenzar.

Ese mismo día la entrega siguió en Bomba de Yaiba, una comunidad rural donde los niños se acercaron al centro comunal con sus madres y sus abuelas y el pastor Castillo les fue entregando las mochilas una por una. Entre una comunidad y otra llevamos ya un buen tiempo repartiéndolas en algunos de los lugares más pobres donde trabajamos, y con la bendición del Señor y la ayuda de ustedes esperamos entregar seiscientas este año a niños que las necesitan.

Una mochila es poca cosa para la mayoría de las familias, pero para un niño que de otra forma tendría que cargar sus cuadernos en una funda plástica, o no cargar nada, cambia la manera en que se siente el primer día de clases, porque es una razón menos para pasar vergüenza delante de los demás niños y una razón más para seguir yendo.

Nada de esto empieza con nosotros, porque cada mochila que se le entrega a un niño la pagó alguien que decidió que un niño que probablemente nunca va a conocer no empezara el año escolar con las manos vacías, así que gracias por hacerlo posible, y por favor sigan orando por estos niños y sus familias.
